New Who

I will admit I wasn't that surprised as he was always named as a favorite and the bookies loved him. On a personal note, I'm glad that it was someone whose name I recognized and had seen in things. Christopher Eccleston I remembered from Cracker (God, I cried when he was written out). David Tennant I didn't know by name but I had seen in a few things when I checked. Matt Smith I didn't know by name but when someone said he had been in Ruby in the Smoke then I remembered. The same could be said for Paul McGann who I had seen in The Monocled Mutineer. I guess with a larger variety of BBC shows getting airplay here in the States, the odds were increased that I would know the new Doctor from something.

Just a little over 4 months till we see the regen.

I'm not overly familiar with him, but I'm glad it is an older person. I loved Eccleston's more serious and mature doctor almost as much as I love Smith's goofy younger doctor. I have read that he is a great actor- so even though I'll be sad to see Matt leave and feel like he'll always be 'my doctor' I'm excited for 12.

I have seen him in a few things, some without realizing who he was. What most people are bringing up now is his turn in "Fires of Pompeii" as well as "Torchwood: Children of Earth". I loved him in the second season of "The Hour" (which I recommend anyway - both seasons)

I'm going to have to re-watch the Fires of Pompeii, but I do remember him from COE. If I can find the Hour I'll put it on my watch list. Then I can be prepared for 12!
