Yesterday I went to the South Florida Fair with
donna88keys, R, and R's mother. The drive down was rather uneventful as it was shorter than Miami though we did get a U-turn.
The first thing we did was get some food (chicken and fries) before meandering over to the main exhibit hall where they had sand sculptures with an Egyptian theme.

From there we went to a section where they had different animals from Austrailia (though all were raised in captivity in Colorado) They had a kookaburra, two varieties of lorikeets, a bearded dragon, a red kangaroo, grey kangaroo, a wallaroo, and an albino kangaroo.

Then there was a show with trained monkeys, mainly baboons, both of which had appeared in films.

Then we did some more wandering around the concourse and headed toward the animal tents. Inside the "Mooternity" tent there was a calf who had just been born that morning and another cow who had been in labor since last night.

While Donna and R's mother stayed to watch the cow in labor, R and I wandered some more and searched for more food. I hadn't eaten since we arrived. We both had gyros and made our way back to the tent.

R and I came back to the tent and a larger crowd had gathered around the poor cow but yet there was no noise so we knew nothing was happening at that moment. We walked over to the section of the fairground called YesterYear Village which comprised of historical local houses and buildings that had been transported there for conservation. We walked back and watched as the vet and his assistant finally had to pull the calf out once they discerened it was breech. It was a heifer (girl).

It was just going on 9:00pm so we headed back home.
