For me, this had to be the last post. It is Luke 2:1-19 in the King James version with the original spelling.

1And it came to passe in those dayes, that there went out a decree from Cesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.1 )

“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?”
― Bob Hope

We consider Christmas as the encounter, the great encounter, the historical encounter, the decisive encounter, between God and mankind. He who has faith knows this truly; let him rejoice.

POPE PAUL VI, speech, Dec. 23, 1965

There has been only one Christmas — the rest are anniversaries.

I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.

AGNES M. PHARO, attributed, Lessons of Christmas

Bart Simpson: “Aren’t we forgetting the true meaning of Christmas? You know, the birth of Santa.”

Like God, Christmas is timeless and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting. It is something even more than what happened that night in starlit little Bethlehem; it has been behind the stars forever. There was Christmas in the heart of God before the world was formed.

ROY ROGERS, A Happy Trails Christmas

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
― Clement Clarke Moore

Simple phrase to kids from

Altho' it's been said many times
Many ways

Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.

Remember how excited you get when you would think about Santa Claus? How awesome it was? Christmas was the highlight of the year. Why wouldn't you want to keep someone's world magical for a little longer?

Mr. Copper: I am Mr. Copper, the ship's historian. And I shall be taking you to Old Londontown in the country of UK. Ruled over by Good King Wenceslaus. Now human beings worshipped the great god Santa, a creature with fearsome claws, and his wife Mary. And every Christmas Eve, people of UK go to war with the country of Turkey. They then eat the Turkey people for Christmas dinner. Like savages!
The Doctor: Excuse me. Sorry, sorry. But where did you get this from?
Mr. Copper: I have a first class degree in Earthnomics. -

Oh, Christmas isn't just a day, it's a frame of mind... and that's what's been changing. That's why I'm glad I'm here, maybe I can do something about it.

“Christmas time! That man must be a misanthrope indeed, in whose breast something like a jovial feeling is not roused— in whose mind some pleasant associations are not awakened— by the recurrence of Christmas.”

And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun

For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child himself.

The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.

Some says, that ever 'gainst that Season comes;
Wherein our Saviours Birth is celebrated,
The Bird of Dawning singeth all night long:
And then (they say) no Spirit can walk abroud,
The nights are wholesome, then no Planets strike,
No Fairy takes, nor Witch hath power to Charme:
So hallow'd, and so gracious is the time.

Shakespeare
From Hamlet, Act. i scene i.

“At one time, most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.”
― Chris Van Allsburg, The Polar Express

I can't believe it's less than 2 weeks until Christmas! I have my presents done and I just need to wrap them. My oldest brother arrives on the 18th, 6 more arrive the 22nd (3 in the morning and 3 at night), my other brother and his family arrive the 24th and my oldest nephew's girlfriend arrives Christmas night. Doing the math, that gives us 15 people here! Thamkfully, a friend will be visiting family up north so we can use her house. I'll have to post pictures of the tree that will probably be buried under presents.

The quote from last week was correctly guessed as Linus from "A Charlie Brown Christmas".
The songs are:
1. World Without Love -- Peter and Gordon (written by Paul McCartney)
2. Everytime I Think of You -- The Babys
3. Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under? -- Shania Twain
4. A Spaceman Came Travelling -- Chris DeBurgh
5. Mountain of Love -- Johnny Rivers

Now for this week!
How can I stop him sir when I don't know which way is Connecticut!
1. I dont know what it is that makes me love you so I only know I never want to let you go
2. ...Spring is here, the sky is blue...
3. I found a switch, You turned it on, I hit the ditch, You carried on
4. I have often walked down this street before
5. The angel Gabriel from heaven came His wings as drifted snow His eyes as flame

OK, I'm back. Sorry for the long delay. I had a wonderful time in South Carolina. Didn't get to see as much of Charleston as I had hoped but maybe I might make another trip.

Time to give answers from the last "quiz".
The quote was Norm from Cheers.
1. Love Comes Tumbling -- U2
2. When Will I be Loved -- Linda Ronstadt
3. Blue Moon -- The Marcels
4. Ohio -- Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
5. Kissing a Fool -- George Michael

Now, as everyone did so well on the Christmas quotes last year, I'll do that again.

Gee. Do they still make wooden Christmas Trees?

And now for the songs. Of course, Christmas songs are now in the mix.

1. Please lock me away, and don't allow the day here inside where I hide with my lonliness
2. ...People say a love like ours will surely pass but I know a love like ours will last and last
3. ....Don't look so lonely, don't act so blue. I know I'm the only girl you run to.
4. ...And over a village he halted his craft, And it hung in the sky like a star, just like a star...
5. Standing on a mountain looking down on a city The way I feel is a dog-gone pity
