WEll, remember that cold I talked about a few weeks back? Well, the cough is still hanging around. I went back and the doctor put me on an inhaler so hopefully this'll do the trick.

I'm still on the first phase of the transcript (condensing the subtitles) so perhaps within the next few days I'll start on phase 2: the actual transcribing.

I hope everyone stateside - an all those abroad - have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Well, I'll be flying out to CT tomorrow night and in about 24 hours will experience 20F if not colder. I probably won't get a chance to be near a computer until after Christmas so I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

[livejournal.com profile] coquillagement I'll see you Saturday!

One Week

Kinda hard to believe it's down to a week. At work they are playing the same Christmas CDs over and over and most of the versions aren't even that decent. They told me earlier I could make a CD and bring it in. I do and now they say they can't play it. One of the managers told me he likes mind better than the bought ones. One thing that bugs me (and has every year), who was the first to put "My Favorite Things" on a Christmas album when it has nothing to do about the holiday? I feel myself gritting my teeth whenever it comes on.

I think tomorrow will be for cleaning and wrapping presents and Sunday will be cheesecake day. Monday after work I'll make my spice cake to take in on Tuesday. It always disappears quickly. Oh, and I also have to write cards for people at work. Can't forget them.

Hard to believe. Yes, I got my shopping done and I mailed my first batch of cards but I still have to wrap the presents. One needs to be shipped north so that will try to be done tomorrow when I'm out running errands. I plan to go to Borders to pick up DWM and hopefully some decent Christmas albums for work because some of the ones they have are horrible and they need to be "store bought" so there go the mixes I was told I could make (and told were better than the bought). I also need to pick up something for my Mom. She doesn't like getting presents so if I get her something for the house, it might go over a little better. I also need to pick up a cheesecake pan and check my ingredients for the upcoming baking.

Ooh, is anyone else enjoying all these clips and trailers for End of Time? I can't wait though I know the timing of watching it will be delayed with dinner and whatnot. Oh, and Hamlet on Boxing Day? Damn, I so can't wait.

1 hour, 1 shop, CHristmas shopping is done! Now I just have to wrap and ship (only one) and I'll be set. Next thing is writing out the Christmas cards.
jpgr: (DW 10 Swaying ani)
Yep, just bought tickets to see Michael Buble in Orlando next March. Upper level but I was not about to pay over $300 (3 tickets) around Christmas so I hope my friends can deal with it. We missed him last time around to miscommunication so $50 a pop is better than $90 to my mind.

I was thinkiing about hitting the shops today as I still need presents for my brother and his family. They'll be little things but I really haven't figured out what. Howevver as it is almost 11and I haven't changed out of the PJs yet, I think shopping will be Sunday. I will make an attempt to work on cleaning my room and make it look somewhat presentable for company.

Oh, then there's the baking I plan to do. Every year I make a spice cake for work from a recipe and friend of my mom's gave her ages ago. It's always a big hit. Then I was thinking I might try the cheesecake I made last year for Thanksgiving for Christmas as there will be enough mouths to gobble it down. Or I might try a recipe for a 3-layer apple cake that I saw on TV. What do you think?

Writing and stitching still both progressing slowly.

At least in the stores. I never understood why anyone would want to shop at 4am. Seriously, I hate shopping and I hate mornings so really, doesn't make sense to me. I might go up to Target tomorrow because they have Psych season 2&3 DVDs for $12.99. As for presents, I need to do a bit more research for my brother and his family who will be down. I really don't know what they like, plus it needs to be small since they're flying.

Thanksgiving was quiet. I tried to watch the Macy's parade but I couldn't get into it for some reason. As dinner was only four of us, we did chicken instead of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and green beans. My brother flew down from CT and he got in around 4:30 so we had dinner regular time. We played 3 games of pinochle and my brother and I beat Mom and Dad 3-0.

My brother then said he was ready to watch Life on Mars which made me happy. He had seen the US version but agreed with the rest of the world that the original is loads better. He liked John and Phil's acting and the Sam/Gene dynamic which was so missing in the remake. This morning he told me he wanted to take in some more.

Well, no new news except I did something last night I've never done before: I made a cheesecake! It looks pretty good if you ask me. On Thursday I get to add the final touches (topping) and I will try to get a photo and post it (now that I can). We will have 13 people for dinner on Thanksgiving but not all at the same table so no superstitious worries. Originally it was to be 5 (just me, the folks, my aunt, and a family friend) but one of my sisters from CT (either Fred or George as [livejournal.com profile] coquillagement has made parallels of our family to that of the Weasleys) kind of invited herself and her family (husband and 2 sons) down. Now, one of my brothers is in Walt Disney World for the week and since my sister will be here, he will now come down for the day with his family (wife, daughter, son). So, full house.

Still ALive

I know I've been bad and haven't posted in weeks, but things were a bit mad here. We've had company from 12/18 through just yesterday so I really haven't had time.

Things were a bit mad with comings and goings. The original plan was 14 people for Christmas dinner (just 2 brothers and their familes) but my one brother's flight was canceled so he didn't make it until the day my other brother was leaving.

Christmas Day was supposed to be golf day. It's become a tradition when we have family down. The course is closed but my dad borrows carts from friends and they go out. Because of this, it was decided that everyone would oupen one present Christmas Eve and save the rest for after golf. My present? A 19" LCD monitor from one of my sisters. I was so ready to hook it up then and there but decided to wait until they golfed. So I wake up and I hear voices when I shouldn't. Why? It was raining and therefore no golf. So, we opened presents instead. My one nephew got me a book of photos of the Beatles, his brother got me a small calendar of Ireland, the oldest brother got me a lavender candle and their sister got me a lavender package including 2 little votive candles, a sachet, and a room atomizer. Nah, they don't know me at all. My other brother (who couldn't make it) got me a t-shirt from the Hard Rock Cafe in Instanbul! How cool is that? My folks got me this real pretty tan long-sleeved shirt that I hope to find a time to wear.

On a side note, while talking with Co I wanted to know how Luke liked his present of a sonic screwdriver. She said he was running about the house and would not put it down. I just wish I could have seen his face.

The following day some of us went down to Miami because one of my nephews had never been and wanted to go. We went to the Villa Vizcaya which was built in the early 1900s and was influenced by Italian villas. We then walked about South Beach which was kinda cool. I hope to finish off my roll of film soon so I can post some pics.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and I hope to be back to the regular postings next week!

I have a new computer, a new "brain" as my father put it. Last week it started giving me troubles and I broke down and ran up to Best Buy and picked up a new HP Slimline. An online friend had researched for me and this was highly rated on CNet. Lucky me, I got the last one they had on the floor and I got it on the last day of the sale. It has a DVD burner and 3 USB ports so I don't have to keep switching out my printer and iPod. One drawback is that I have to reload my iTunes because they wouldn't fit in "storage mode" on the iPod itself.

Now for Christmas. I still haven't wrapped my presents. I think setting up the new PC has taken much of my time. My brother arrived yesterday and we already played 2 games of pinochle. Today he's helping my dad clean the pool deck/area with the power cleaner.

Now, I know what you're all waiting for.
Last week's quote was from my favorite holiday movie Holiday Inn
1. I Only Want to be With You -- Dusty Springfield
2. Chapel of Love -- The Dixie Cups
3. I Love It When You Call -- The Feeling
4. On The Street Where You Live -- My Fair Lady
5. Gabriel's Message -- Sting

Now for this week:
1. Here we are as in olden days, Happy golden days of yore.
2. Well my temperature is rising got my feet on the floor Crazy people rocking 'cause they want to go more
3. I saw you there one wonderful day You took my heart and threw it away
4. When I first saw you with your smile so tender My heart was captured, my soul surrendered
5. We got something we both know it, We dont talk too much about it
jpgr: (DW Merry Christmas)
I can't believe it's less than 2 weeks until Christmas! I have my presents done and I just need to wrap them. My oldest brother arrives on the 18th, 6 more arrive the 22nd (3 in the morning and 3 at night), my other brother and his family arrive the 24th and my oldest nephew's girlfriend arrives Christmas night. Doing the math, that gives us 15 people here! Thamkfully, a friend will be visiting family up north so we can use her house. I'll have to post pictures of the tree that will probably be buried under presents.

The quote from last week was correctly guessed as Linus from "A Charlie Brown Christmas".
The songs are:
1. World Without Love -- Peter and Gordon (written by Paul McCartney)
2. Everytime I Think of You -- The Babys
3. Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under? -- Shania Twain
4. A Spaceman Came Travelling -- Chris DeBurgh
5. Mountain of Love -- Johnny Rivers

Now for this week!
How can I stop him sir when I don't know which way is Connecticut!
1. I dont know what it is that makes me love you so I only know I never want to let you go
2. ...Spring is here, the sky is blue...
3. I found a switch, You turned it on, I hit the ditch, You carried on
4. I have often walked down this street before
5. The angel Gabriel from heaven came His wings as drifted snow His eyes as flame

Well, I'm in South Carolina. The house here is huge! I used a whole roll of film on it alone. We arrived Monday and basicaaly just kinda hung out. Yesterday we went to visit one of the many plantations before going into Charleston proper to meet up with my niece and have lunch. I'm not sure what's on the agenda today or even later in the week, but I'd love to see if we can make a trip to Ft Sumter.

I hope everyone has a great holiday tomorrow!

Sorry no songs this week. I'll be away for Thanksgiving and I've no idea if I will have computer access so I hope those of you who celebrate it have a great and safe holiday!

However flowerless the ways
Of grim November,
However dull and drear her days,
We should remember
One happy time she sets apart
For royal living,
A gift to cheer and bless each heart,--
It is Thanksgiving!
