Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

She gave me: quiz, DrWho, literature, cross-stitch, music

Quiz
My sister got me into Live Journal and I never really was one for jotting down stuff so I thought I needed something to make me post at least once a week. At first I just used quotes but then there was an iPod meme going around where you put down the first lines of the first 25 songs that come on. From this, I decided to take 5 songs a week and it seems to go over well.

Dr Who
OK, I've been a fan of this show since around 1979/80 after laughing at the ridiculousness of it. I really can't pinpoint what it is about the show that called me like a siren. I have almost all the episodes, a good number of the Target novelizations, the Marvel comic books, all of the Virgin novel line and the BBC novels, the Big Finish audios, and a good number of non-fiction titles. I converted an older niece and nephew but it didn't hold as well as there was nothing on TV at the time. However, a younger batch have their own copies of the new series and have seen a couple of the new ones. I could babble on about this in detail but really this is my tip-top fandom and most of my family is aware of this.

Literature
I'm guessing this was chosen due to some of the quotes I've used. I do have a BA in English but I will be the first to admit there are many classics out there that I haven't read. (only 2 Dickens and 1 Austen, for example) I keep meaning to take up and read some more. A couple of my favorites are the ones not usually mentioned: Ivanhoe and The Scarlet Pimpernel. Of recent series, I love the Sharpe novels and read those devoutly when they come out. Most of my regular reading does tend towards mysteries, sci-fi and romances. OK, when I finish the lastest book from the library, I will make myself head back to the classics.

Cross-stitch
I believe this is one of the simplest needlecrafts around and I really don't recall the first time I started doing this in earnest. I know some of the younger nieces and nephews got birth announcements made but I really don't recall the first. I love just seeing the pattern slowly emerge on blank canvas and it is somewhat theraputic. I usually doing while watching TV because I need some sort of noise or distraction. Baseball works great. :) I might actually do one for myself eventually.

Music
Again, I guess this stems from the quiz. I will admit, I love listening to music and I have quite a variety which I think was due to the fact that I'm the youngest of 7 so music was always playing in the house. Big bands, broadway, oldies, almost anything. When I travel, jut put a book in my hands and my iPod and I'm a happy girl. I also think music ties closely to memories. Maybe not an actual event or moment, but just to a certain time (childhood, high school) and usually brings a smile to my face.
