My Brush With Fame
Nov. 19th, 2005 09:17 pmNot that Co and I are playing a game of one-upmanship, but I got to speak with a famous singer today. Granted it wasn't a lifelong dream (that would be Sir Paul or Bono) but it was still fun. Thing is, she used to live in town and came to the shop quite often. As I'm not a fan it was easy to strike up a conversation and (I'd like to think) she would seek me out whenever she was there.
Oh, who is it, you want to know? Tori Amos.
She was in town visiting her parents for Thanksgiving and came shopping. One of my co-workers did one of those not-so-subtle nods to point her out. I walked over and greeted her like an old friend. She told me her daughter was back in England with her father as she still has school and introduced me to her niece. She asked after my health etc. and was very pleasant. Really, how often can someone famous go out and actually have real conversations?
After she had gone, everyone was asking me if I knew her blah, blah. I smiled and said "Only from here". After that I did share Co's story of meeting Bruce which got a number of "Wows" and "Oh my Gods"
